The Wild Medicine Retreat, Bala Brook, Dartmoor

  • Bala Brook Retreat Centre South Brent, England, TQ10 9ED United Kingdom (map)

Join Lauren, Laura & Alice for ‘The Wild Medicine’, an immersive retreat experience held at Bala Brook Retreat Centre in the wild surroundings of Dartmoor National Park… Exploratory, somatic and embodied movement & meditation, wild food & eco-therapy…

The weekend will provide a powerful experience of reconnection, both with our human body, mind & spirit and the body & spirit of earth that holds us.

When we go with open eyes and a willing heart into Nature we find our inner feminine, our feeling self, reflected. The very face of Nature is a mirror within which we find our heart revealed.
— Ian Siddons Heginworth

Lauren will lead two daily sessions (morning & evening) of expansive body work through somatic movement and yoga asana, breath work, sound meditation and Yoga Nidra.  Lauren’s sessions are designed to awaken and embody nature’s elements within us.  We will explore the Pancha Maha Bhutas ‘The Five Great Elements’ across five sessions before ending the weekend with a closing circle.

What was once considered a simple practice and ideology about the benefits of nature has been proven in multiple studies to positively impact our physical and mental health. Some of the benefits of spending time in nature can be: a boost in killer-cells that fight off viruses, an ability to maintain focus and improvement in mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression and other mood disorders.

Across Friday & Saturday, Laura will invite us to gather in circle, immersed in nature.  The circle is a time for reconnection, reflection, and the exploration of feelings, thoughts and patterns of behaviour that arise for us whilst in the woods.  Laura holds gentle space to express what has arisen in a safe and contained way.  It is a time to take note of how ‘nature is a mirror’ therefore deepening the connection to the natural world surrounding us and the lessons contained therein.

This practice will allow time to bring awareness to where natures energy lies at this point in the cycle of the year.  There will be time for sharing and discussion before exploring the land through creation.

Laura is an Artist & Environmental Arts Therapist and has been registered with the HCPC for over 15 years as an Art Psychotherapist.  She regularly exhibits her artwork which is inspired by the land in the area.
